Under these circumstances we do not see what we can do, sorry though we are that the question should have arisen, and we cannot make any suggestion.

We think you know this Firm well enough to know we should not be a party to do anything wrong and in arranging this sheeting we did not enter into a question of price.

We are quite satisfied that we cannot obtain any redress from our Sub Contractors as they sold us a proprietary article which was approved and there was no mention in the specification about any special tests which the material had to stand.

If there is any suggestion you have to make so as to arrive at a friendly settlement we will certainly consider it, but we cannot see how this Firm are in any way to blame

With reference to your contract for materials for the extension of a loco running shed at Hong Kong, we enclose for your information a copy of the tests and analyses which were made last August upon samples of the asbestos corrugated roofing supplied and also upon samples of "Lammit" sheeting.

2. Your sub-contractors in their letter to you of the 26th March 1917 guarantee their material to be of at least an equal quality to "Lammit" sheeting. The tests however

show the material to be decidedly inferior to "Lammit". In the circumstances owing to the complete failure of the material we must ask you to refund to us the amount included in your tender for this sheeting.
